Its strengths are superior thermal insulation properties, very low weight, and good compressibility of the filling – ensuring a small volume. All that while maintaining a long life. Thanks to these strengths, it meets the high requirements that are placed especially on winter expedition sleeping bags.
In down sleeping bags, down is mixed with small feathers. Down fulfils the insulation function, while small feathers provide the “loft” effect – fluffiness. With down you also get a unit called the ‘cuin’ (cubic inches), which shows the down’s maximum ability to fill up volume. The higher the value, the better the fill power.
